Proofreading and editing services
Whether setting up a website, writing a blog post, designing a flyer or poster, or putting together a proposal, we often underestimate just how unprofessional and off-putting our spelling mistakes and grammatical errors look to our readers. However, mistakes are easily made (and just as easily missed) by the writer. My job is to fix any spelling, grammatical or punctuation slip-ups for you. This will help you to instil confidence and trust for your readers, potential and returning customers, fans or brand.
To get a professional look and feel for your writing or designs, your content must be error-free and well-presented. I can help you with:
your website, blog or social media
your printed marketing materials (flyers, posters, business cards, menus, price lists, etc.)
your essay, dissertation or thesis
your CV and cover letter for that important job application
During the proofreading process, I’ll go through your text meticulously, word by word and line by line, checking for spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax errors, as well as any style or formatting issues, and generally making sure your writing flows. I won’t change the tone of your writing, but I will work hard to ensure that your words are presented as well as they possibly can be.
for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors
the structure of your sentences
the consistency of your language
the style and formatting of your text
the readability for your intended audience
any links in your online content
Your copy will:
be clearly presented and easy to read
be free from errors, inconsistencies and repetition
adhere to your preferred style guide
observe the conventions of good writing
I use Track Changes in MS Word for proofreading. This function allows you to see all the edits and amends that I make to your writing, letting you accept or reject the changes as you wish. I am happy to talk you through how to use Track Changes if you are unfamiliar with it. Alternatively, if you would like me to proofread a PDF document, I use the comments and correction tools in Adobe Reader.
For website and blog proofreading, I can either import your pages into Word and use Track Changes, or access your Content Management System to make any amendments directly.
I generally work with non-fiction, such as website pages, blogs, social media, marketing materials, business documents, dissertations, CVs and cover letters, etc. However, I am happy to discuss your project, whatever it may be.
You’ll receive a personalised quote reflecting the length and content of your project, how much work is required to get your text into shape, and how quickly you need it completed. I may ask you for a representative sample of your project so that I can provide you with an accurate quote.
